  • 11-14 - Scouts
  • 14-17 - Venturer Scouts
  • 18-26 - Rover Scouts

Beaver Scouts: for boys and girls, 5-7 years old.

A time of "Sharing, Sharing, Sharing"

The Beaver Scouts program is built around a variety of games, crafts, music, storytelling, playacting, spiritual fellowship and the outdoors. Beaver Scout activities emphasizes cooperation and teamwork, and can involve the whole family. Beaver Scouts meet as part of a colony; colonies are made up of two to six lodges.

Wolf Cub Scouts: for girls and boys who are 8 to 11 years old.

A chance to "Do Your Best"

Based on Rudyard Kipling's "Jungle Book", the Cub Scout program is built around six activity areas: the Natural World; Outdoors; Creative Expression; Healthy Living; Home and Community; and Canada and the World. The outdoors is an essential part of the Cub Scout program, with weekend events, hikes and overnight camping opportunities. Cub Scouts meet as a pack, and are members of a six.

Scouts: for young men and women, 11 to 14 years of age.

A time to "Be Prepared"

The Scout program helps youth expand their leadership skills and gain self confidence. Scouting promotes activities that encourage youth to: seek self reliance; pursue personal interests; develop self discipline and the skills to achieve small group and personal goals; be of service to others; and to camp and develop good conservation practices.

As the outdoors is an essential part of the Scout program, weekend events, extended hikes, no-trace (LNT) camping and seasonal outdoor sports are all part of the Scout experience. Scouts meet as a troop, and will pursue many activities in a smaller group, the patrol. In some groups, there will be an option for a youth to remain a Scout until the age of 16.

Venturer Scouts: for young women and men who are 14 -17 years old.

A place of "Challenge"

Venturer Scouts help young women and men advance their leadership skills and gain self confidence. Venturing emphasizes outdoor and environmental activities, citizenship and community service, leadership and personal development, and career exploration. Venturer Scouts are organized in companies. They develop and manage their own program with the help of an adult advisor.

Rover Scouts: for men and women 18 to 26 years of age.

An opportunity to be of "Service"

Rover Scouts take part in such adventurous outdoor activities as mountain climbing, white water rafting, and para-sailing. Rover Scouts serve their local communities by participation in such service activities such as food drives, park clean-ups, and tree plantings. Rover Scouts assemble as crews; and develop and manage their own program under the mentorship of a respected advisor.

Adult Leaders:

An opportunity for men and women to "Learn by doing; lead by example".

Scouts Canada puts the safety of its youth members first at all times - meaning youth are not exposed to dangerous situations or subjected to inappropriate behaviour. To ensure appropriate adult leadership, the adult membership application process includes interviews, local reference checks and police record checks. The Scouts Canada website outlines the processes and expectations in Volunteer Screening.

Adult members are required to participate in section-specific training that addresses working with youth, communication skills, program planning and appropriate outdoor skills.
