CARE Red - Canoeing/Kayaking
What is a Red Level Canoe trip? It's a trip that is more than 3 nights away. You know, those trips that you've always wanted to do such as Strathcona, Bowron Lakes, the Broken Group, Kyuquot Sound, Desolation Sound, and many more. After all, we live on the beautiful West Coast!
As you know, these trips take a LOT of planning and preparation! Learn about the paperwork, trip planning/research, food preparation, equipment, and programming ideas. This course will require a commitment to several evenings and weekends in the months prior to the trip.
- 1st meeting on a weekday, 600 pm – 900 pm
- 2nd meeting is on a weekend, an all-day on-the-water and classroom training at Camp Barnard 900 am – 330 pm
- 3rd meeting on a weekday, 600 pm – 900 pm for pack check
- 3 day weekend trip if possible. 2012 dates to be determined. You may be required to take one day off from work!
$50 for Scouters, $60 for non-Scouters + cost of travel and food supplies
Basic canoeing skills required, therefore you must either have the Tandem Lakewater certification, or be able to pass the practical manoeuvring test. Limit 8 participants.
