Queen's Venturer Award

The following is an incomplete listing of Greater Victoria Area Venturer Scouts who have achieved the highest award possible in the Venturer Scout Program. If your name is not on the list and should be, please send an e-mail to the WebScouter to make the correction.
The Queen's Venturer Award is presented to Venturer Scouts who have acquired competence and skills that will be of considerable use to themselves, their company and their community. These Venturer Scouts will have also been recognized by the company, the advisor, and Scouts Canada as being worthy of receiving this award. The Award signifies that a Venturer Scout has, in the opinion of those who know the Venturer Scout, both the character and ability to be of significant help to other people.
The concept started in 1909 when Edward VII and Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting) agreed that exceptionally good Scouts would be designated “King’s Scouts. They qualified through first aid training and developing service skills such as lifesaving an interpreting. With the assent of Elizabeth II to the throne in 1952, the honour was changed to “Queen’s Scout. In 1967 Scouts had their top award established as The Governor General’s (or “Chief Scout’s) Award, and the newly-created Venturer Scouts were given the goal of becoming a Queen’s Venturer.
The Queen’s Venturer Award is unique because the requirements include approval by the Venturer Scout’s advisor and peers. It was introduced in 1968, following three years of program testing. The award consists of a cloth emblem and a parchment signed by the Governor General.
The British Columbia Ministry of Education has approved Scouts Canada's Queen's Venturer Award as an External Course for which the Ministry recognizes certificates. Venturer Scouts in B.C. receive four Grade 12 credits towards High School graduation by successful completion of the Queen's Venturer Award requirements and presenting proof to their school.
