The Barnard Bike-athon
Support Camp Barnard while building cycling skills and safety into your program.
Every dollar donated will be used for improvements at Camp Barnard or for your own group. Or make it a fund-raiser for your CJ trip. We suggest you split donations 50:50 between camp and your own group OR pass all donations through to camp. Tax receipts will be provided for donations of $25 or more.
The bike-athon runs anytime you can fit it into your program before June 16th. Pledge envelopes will be available in the Scout Shop by the end of April. If you have difficulty getting into the shop, we’ll deliver envelopes directly to you. We’ll also provide participant badges for the cyclists.
Here’s how one group is approaching the bike-athon.
- All sections will be checking bikes and covering bike skills and safety with their youth before the bike-athon. A local bike shop will help by doing a safety check with Cubs.
- Beavers and Cubs will be riding on a ¾ km loop of roads and bike paths in a local park. Beavers will make 4 circuits (or about 3 kms). Cubs will do at least 13 circuits or 10 kms. Scouts will cover 26 laps or roughly 20 kms or, more likely, will join Venturers for a trip out to Mattick’s Farm on the Galloping Goose and Lochside Trails and a round of mini-golf – a 30-km round trip.
- The group will be laying on refreshments and prizes, and will pass all donations along to camp.
If you’d like information on this group’s bike-athon plan, check in with George Clark at bikeathon@victoriascouts.ca. We’d also like to hear how you and your group are approaching the bike-athon and building cycling safety into your program.
Please register using the on-line registration form. That way, we can get participant badges out to you beforehand. Otherwise, we’ll follow up with badges after you’ve completed your bike-athon event.
Questions? Ideas? Please contact George at bikeathon@victoriascouts.ca.
Thanks for supporting Camp Barnard!
