CAMP BARNARD NEWS
SUMMER 2011 at CAMP BARNARD
Another busy summer is unfolding at Camp Barnard. Already we have had visits from Scouting groups from Quebec and Alberta and we have 3 weeks of Cub & Scout camps still to come, as well as all the other organizations that use our great facilities.
WILDERNESS ADVENTURE CAMPS
For girls & boys, members & non-members, 9-12 year olds.
We are pleased to report that the 2 August week-long camps led by Cascadia staff have been very well received. There are just a couple more spots in Week 1- Aug 7-12, still room for more in Week 2- Aug 14-19. Please check out the details today at www.adventurecamps.ca or call Kay Smith at 250 384 3494.
If you are interested in volunteering to help in the kitchen for these camps, please contact Grace at campcommittee@victoriascouts.ca or 250 592 5747.
Work Projects Underway
- Mor Bathroom - should be ready for use by fall, 2011. It's looking great!
- Re-roofing Cub Cabins - we have received some funding from Victoria Rotary and Sooke Community Fund for this work and it is likely that we will get a good start on this during the coming fall.
- We have about 10 outhouses in various states of construction. Anyone/Everyone is welcome to come out to lend a hand with completing these! Just call the camp and let Willy know you are coming- 250 642 5924.
SUBARU Western Triathalon-Sunday, August 7
This event begins at Camp Barnard with the swim in Young's Lake. This year the race is being televised by TSN - a great opportunity to show off our waterfront at least.
The organizers are looking for volunteers- please contact Shantel Cordeiro, 250 220 2259 or shantel@triseries.ca if you are interested in volunteering.
Summer Students from Quebec
From July 4-Aug 12 we will have Elyse and Chloe, high school students from Gatineau, working at Camp Barnard. They are here on an exchange program principally to improve their English(already very good!) and to work 5 days a week at Camp. Please look for them if you are at camp and make them feel welcome. They will be a great help to us throughout the summer.
Fall Planning
Remember to book your fall camp early-it's a great time to get the group spirit instilled! Also mark your calendars for Saturday, October 1- that's APPLE DAY one of the most important fundraisers for camp in the year! Thrifty Foods has once again come through with us for the apples. Time to book those sites!
Thanks to everyone who has camped, maintained, donated and otherwise helped our camp over the past year. It is looking great!
Have a great summer everyone,
Camp Barnard Committee
