Facilities and Uses

NO PETS ALLOWED IN ANY AREA AT CAMP BARNARD

What IS SUPPLIED at various facilities at Camp Barnard?

Mor Kitchen, Rama Circle, Mang Circle
Keego Kitchen, Kaa Circle, Sona Circle

When you book one of these facilities at Camp Barnard you will be getting ½ a kitchen, 1 cabin circle, washrooms (shared). Groups requiring a full kitchen must book accordingly and will be charged for a minimum of 40 campers.

Camp Barnard does not supply cooks.

Each ½ Kitchen has the following:

  • Full set of pots, pans, cooking utensils
  • A shared Microwave oven
  • A gas stove with oven, 6 burners and a shared grill
  • A shared walk-in cooler
  • A shared freezer
  • A shared dining hall with tables and benches
  • Paper towel
  • Garbage bags
  • Bleach spray bottles
  • Bio-hazard cleanup bucket
  • Kitchen knives, sharpening stones
  • Cleaning supplies for Grill Only
  • Double sink, mops, pails, brooms

Each Cabin Circle has the following:

  • 6 Cabins with bunks to sleep 8 each (total 48)
  • A campfire ring
  • Brooms to clean the cabins
  • Rakes to clean the grounds
  • 2 buckets, one for water and the other for sand, for the fire ring

Each Washroom has the following:

  • Some have one shower
  • Mens washrooms have 2 urinals (minimum)
  • 2 toilets and two sinks (minimum)
  • Toilet paper and paper towel dispensers
  • Bio-hazard cleanup bucket
  • Broom, pail, mop

Totem & McPherson Lodges

These are booked as a single facility and have the following:

McPherson Lodge (dining hall/kitchen)

  • Full set of pots, pans, cooking utensils
  • Microwave oven
  • Gas stove with oven, 6 burners, and a grill
  • Freezer and cooler
  • 2 separate washrooms with toilet paper and paper towels
  • Tables and chairs
  • Bio-hazard cleanup bucket
  • Mop, pail and brooms

Totem Lodge (activity/sleeping area)

  • Propane Heater
  • Unisex washroom with toilet paper and paper towels
  • Bio-hazard cleanup bucket
  • Tables and chairs
  • 2 sleeping lofts
  • Mop, pail, broom
  • Campfire circle
  • 2 buckets (one sand, the other water)
  • Rakes for the grounds

Thompson, Creekside, Columbia Campgrounds

  • Tenting area with camp tables, fire pits
  • Washroom with shower or pit toilet (Columbia)
  • Easy access to parking lot
  • absolutely NO VEHICLES allowed in camping area)

Backcountry Campgrounds

  • Walk-in camping
  • Pit toilets
  • Potable water
  • Tables, flagpole, campfire circles

What is NOT SUPPLIED with building/campsite rentals at Camp Barnard?

This list has been prepared to help cooks or leaders assemble the things that they need to bring to camp (in addition to food)

You must bring your own:

  1. Personal dishes and cutlery - each camper must bring their own cup, plate, bowl, knife, fork, and spoon. As we all know someone will forget some or all of these, each kitchen has a limited supply of these on hand but they must be returned to the kitchen at the end of the camp.
  2. Please bring your own cloth items. WE DO NOT SUPPLY:
    • pot holders
    • cleaning rags
    • dish clothes
    • dish towels
    • scrubbies
  3. Please bring your own cleaning solutions. WE DO NOT SUPPLY:
    • oven cleaner
    • dish soap
    • hand soap for washrooms and dining areas
    • bleach for disinfecting
    • general purpose cleaner
    • rubber gloves

Please DO NOT leave behind your leftovers of any of these items. Each group of users must bring their own supplies and take home with them any unused supplies.

Other facilities offered at Camp Barnard

Please share these facilities cooperatively with other campers.

Waterfront

Young Lake is equipped for swimming and watercraft activities. Swimming times and watercraft use must be pre-booked with camp caretaker. No lifeguard service is available, you must provide your own.

Please do not disturb the salmon fry in the penned area in the middle of the lake.

Recycling/Garbage

All campers must arrange to have their recyclables removed from camp. This includes cans, glass, paper, cardboard. Do not put these items in the garbage; send them home with your campers or speak to the camp ranger. All Garbage should be taken to the dumpster in the main parking lot. NO GARBAGE to be left at kitchens, bathrooms or campsites.

Compost to be taken down to compost bins next to barn the buckets must be cleaned and returned to the kitchen it belongs to.

Maximum Occupancy

Maximum occupancy ratings are set to meet fire safety regulations and, in some cases, to put a reasonable limit on the use of the facilities.

  • Cabin circles 48 people
  • Keego kitchen 150 people
  • Mor kitchen 150 people
  • McPherson & Totem Lodge 60 people

Parking Restrictions, etc.

  • Speed limit in camp is 5 km/h
  • All vehicles must be parked in parking lots. DO NOT leave vehicles along roadsides- these are fire roads only and must be kept clear at all times. In addition, traffic along these roads damages plants and waterlines. Holding tanks and septic fields near kitchens and bathrooms are easily damaged. Pack lightly and carry your goods from the parking lot to your campsite.

Additional Charges

Read and carry out all kitchen clean-up instructions posted in your kitchen. Campers will be charged for the cost of cleaning if stoves, facilities and grounds are not properly cleaned or for any damage to facilities or items missing from the camp.

Fees for cleaning, repairs and replacement, etc. include:

  • Cleaning - $25 per hour
  • Recycling Fee - $15
  • Replacement of window screens - $15 each
  • Replacement of cabin windows - $40 each for 4X2 Plexiglas, $20 each for 2X2 Plexiglas
  • Repairs to bunks - Varies
  • Items missing - As per inventory sheets
  • Pets brought to camp- immediate removal of pet or $25 fine charged

In keeping with good Scouting principles LEAVE NO TRACE.
